SLI Welcomes Samba Jalloh M.D.

SLI Welcomes Samba Jalloh M.D.

The Saving Lives Initiative was excited to welcome our good friend and colleague from Sierra Leone, Dr. Samba Jalloh, to Maryland. We first met Dr. Jalloh during our first trip to Sierra Leone when he was just a medical student. We might say” just a medical student ” but at that time he had more experience in front line treatment of infectious disease than most doctors will see in a lifetime.

Samba was pressed into service during the Ebola crisis and performed admirably without regard for his personal safety. As a result of this work during the crisis and subsequent work with a measles outbreak and continued public health initiatives, Dr.Jalloh was recognized by the Consortium of Universities for Global Health as the 2019 “Young African Leader in Global Health” .

We were able to arrange for Dr. Jalloh to speak to the staff at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown and provided for the first of many anticipated exchange learning opportunities.
